Introduction

Optometry is a healthcare profession that is concerning the eyes and related structures, as well as the visual system, visual perceptual and processing mechanisms, also multisensory coordinations. This profession is officially recognized in many countries and has been ranked the 2nd best profession in the United States in 2006. Since the Law of Optometrists has been legislated in 2015 in Taiwan, Optometry education and practice have begun to thrive. Taiwanese people have recognized Optometrists as highly professional primary eye care providers and appreciated Optometry as a valuable career field.

The founder of Asia University, Dr. Chang-Hai Tsai, who has been insisting on doing meaningful things for this land, witnessed the shortage in primary eye care and recognized the importance of having professional Optometric education in Taiwan. Therefore, he established the department of Optometry at Asia University and has been fully supporting the department. Since then, Asia Optometry has been recruiting highly respected academic and clinical staff, developing international outlooks, and facilitating resource integration locally and globally - to set a role model for Optometry education in Taiwan.
