Strengths
1. International collaborations with top-ranking universities
We have a very close relationship with the School of Optometry, Auckland University, New Zealand. AU Optometry students will have the opportunity to attend the annual overseas internship program at the University of Auckland. Moreover, we have also established MOUs with Wenzhou Medical University (China), Tianjin Medical University (China), Universiti Teknologi MARA (Malaysia), and Tohoku Bunka Gakuen University (Japan) for students who hope to participate in exchange programs in more similar cultures and environments.
2. Most modern teaching equipment:
As a newly-established department, AU optometry puts much effort into teaching students to operate the most up-to-date Optometric equipment. In addition to those general techniques such as visual acuity measurement, refraction, contact lens fitting, visual function testings (eye movements, color vision, stereopsis, and so forth) and Ophthalmic dispensing, more advanced equipment operation and result diagnosing are also delivered in our department. These include fundus camera and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) for examing retina, Slit lamp microscopy for examing anterior ocular health, Keratography (Corneal topography) for detecting dry-eye and corneal diseases such as Keratoconus and so on. These skills will directly link to our graduates' practices as Optometrists in both Ophthalmological clinics and Optometric practices in the future.
